 Tottenham vs Brighton Preview

Revenge will be on the air for Spurs on Boxing Day as they aim to make up for one of the dark days towards the end of Mauricio Pochettino's government - a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium in October.

There are, of course, the new man at the helm for the North London outfit now and Jose Mourinho has won four of the six Premier League games in charge, but the two exceptions in the time it has been significant.

The defeat to former club Manchester United and Chelsea have halted their rise above four races, with the final on Sunday left them six points adrift of a Champions League place.

For all their inconsistency this season, Spurs have not lost back-to-back league matches since May, though the last time their fate in all competitions was Brighton who inflicted their second defeat.

Tottenham are second in the standings with 45 points at the halfway stage of last season, while this time the best they can hope for is fifth with 29 points - a reflection of the severe downturn in form that has plagued them for almost the whole of 2019 ,
Solitary victory at that time did come at the expense of Arsenal's North London, though, and Graham Potter will still be very happy with his side's first innings this season.

Brighton which is of course to achieve a miracle 40-point mark and boast a relatively comfortable five points during the relegation zone, although their form poor must continue much longer then that could quickly be eaten.

Six of their next seven games after this one coming against teams currently below them in the table, though, so Potter will be optimistic of an upturn in form during the early stages of the New Year.

The Seagulls were beaten 1-0 at home by high-flying Sheffield United in their final game before Christmas, but after beating the Spurs this season to convince already once they have arrived in North London with the sincere hope that they can record what would be their first league two fold over Tottenham.
